If one has to talk about the anatomy of links and search engines, then it can be done through an analogy, where search engines like Goggle, Bing, Yahoo, etc. are like train engines and webpages & websites are like different platform stations. The local links and hyperlinks serve as the rail-tracks which guide the search engines to various stations. Now, some platform stations are more important and famous in regards to others. Along the similar lines, the links act as deciding factor and decide the rank for a website.

How does link building works?

As per the on-page search engine optimization techniques, a search engine goes through the content of website before giving it a rank on a webpage. Similarly, according to the off-page search engine optimization techniques, a search engine analyzes various backlinks and their credibility and optimizes its rank on the webpage. Fundamentally speaking, if rich quality websites are linked to your website with high-quality links, then your website will have a better rank in the search results. If a website isn’t linked as resource to various other credible websites, then Google and other search engines would filter out such websites and elude their visibility in search results. Thus, it is necessary to learn some essential link building techniques to increase the volume of high-quality links pointing towards your website and thereby increasing the quality traffic on it.

Inbound Link

Going by the definition, those links which are present on another website or webpage and are pointing towards to your website are known as inbound links. These links serve as the backlinks because they bring back the user to the website, plus these links are also called hyperlinks and help in revamping the credibility of a website. It is important to note here that if an inbound link is coming from a famous and reliable website, then the website receiving the link will gain extra trustworthiness as well as the integrity of resourcefulness. This phenomenon is called directing the referral traffic. Suppose a famous blogger quotes the content from your site, then his/her followers will be directed to your website.  The phrase, “the more, the merrier” applies here; the more the number of inbound links linked to a website, the better is the rank of that website in the results of search engines.

Authority inbound links

As discussed above, if the inbound links are coming off from a market leading website, then a good volume of traffic will be directed towards the receptive website. Dofollow v/s Nofollow links

Extracting the ranking juice from the inbound links became a very common technique in the SEO world. In order to restrict this flow of juice, dofollow and nofollow links were introduced. “The more, the merrier” phrase is no more applicable to inbound links. Every time a website mentions your website in its post or blog, it is not necessary that your website will definitely earn the credibility points. This procedure was ensured and applied through nofollow links. As the name goes, nofollow links hamper the crawling of search engines to the targeted websites. Though users can still surf through the nofollow links and reach the designated website. All the nofollow links have an HTML attribute in their URL statements that hinder the search engine from acknowledging the credibility of the targeted website and thus have no effect on its ranking.

The dofollow links serve as the essential backlinks that let the engine bots to track the targeted website and acknowledge its reliability. Therefore dofollow links are constructed with such HTML attributes that the flow of link juice remains unaffected and thus the designated website gains better ranking on the webpages.

This anchor can be seen in the HTML code which is clickable and encapsulates the content of the page. Therefore, it is essential to include significant keywords in the anchor text to gain good ranking in search results. The important thing to note here is that, the owner of website has absolutely zero control over the anchor text of inbound links.

Inner linking

In the web of inbound links and outbound links, one must not overlook the importance of internal linking techniques. Internal links are the hyperlinks that allow the user as well as search engine to surf among the various webpages and posts of a single website. A website must bear a good structure of internal links which helps in defining the hierarchy of information on the website. A well-organized content is more reliable in the sight of search engines, thus resulting in better ranking of the website.
